Carbal Medical Centre (Carbal CAN: Tackle Indigenous Smoking)



Carbal Medical Services is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Care Organisation. Their services cover the Darling Downs, Southern Downs and Goondiwinidi regions. Carbal provides high quality, sustainable and comprehensive primary health care service with a balance of clinical and population health programs that are culturally safe, responsive to community needs, and integrated with other complementary service providers.

The Carbal Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) team carry out a range of activities from one-on-one appointments, support groups, community events and engagement with schools.

The TIS Team have engaged local Indigenous children, local elders, Indigenous football players (community champions) and local community members that have successfully quit to develop Carbal CAN: Tackle Indigenous Smoking advertisements for a TV campaign.


As part of the Carbal CAN: Tackle Indigenous Smoking, a series of videos are available on Youtube.

Carbal have also partnered with the New Directions program team, and developed a promotional poster and handout specifically for pregnant women.
