A-clinic

Overview

A-clinic is a home alcohol detoxification (withdrawal management) service for Aboriginal peoples living in the Illawarra region of New South Wales.

This service is based on cultural appropriateness, best evidence and clinical experience, with a goal to improve access to quality and safe healthcare.

A-clinic, a partnership project between Sydney Local Health District and Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service (IAMS) has resulted in an increased capacity for IAMS to provide home detoxification, an increase in the number of Aboriginal drinkers going through withdrawal treatment, and an increase in the number of people engaged with alcohol treatment services.
