Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women's Council (NPYWC) Youth Program

The Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women's Council (NPYWC) Youth Program works across the organisation's tri-state region, throughout Western Australian (WA), South Australia (SA) and the Northern Territory (NT). NPYWC employs a Youth Team that works to encourage and support all young people in the NPY region, especially those who are at risk, facing problems or looking to make changes in their lives.

The Team runs healthy, active diversionary programs for young people, provides case support, and works closely with a variety of stakeholders to improve services and facilities for all young people and their families in communities. Youth Development Officers work with young people in remote communities in WA, SA and NT, using a variety of integrated and complementary activities. The main activities of the program are:

  • casework and support
  • recreation and diversion
  • leadership development
  • advocacy and collaboration.

NPYWC's Youth Program initiated from a petrol sniffing project at the Kaltjiti (Fregon) SA Community in 1999, which was funded by the Australian Government.
