Goldfields want cashless trial if Geraldton doesn't

Date posted: 1 September 2016

Shire presidents in Laverton and Leonora, Western Australia (WA) have asked to be named as the third trial site for the cashless welfare card. Geraldton is still being considered as a trial site for the card, but residents continue to speak out against the proposed measure.

Trials in the East Kimberley and Ceduna, South Australia, are currently under way.

Laverton Shire President, Patrick Hill, said 'Most of the feedback we've had from the community is that they're for it and we've had quite a few people asking questions.'

Federal Member for Durack, Melissa Price, said the Government had not yet made a decision on the third site and 'There would need to be further community consultation before any decision is taken.'
