The Chair of the Anwernekenhe National HIV Alliance is calling for safe needle exchange programs to be made more available for injecting drug users in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and also in the prison system.
The issue of injecting drug use has been put in the spotlight as part of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HIV Awareness Week, which concluded Friday 5 December 2014.
Yorta Yota woman, Michelle Tobin, says safe syringe programs are vital for preventing the transmission of HIV.
